Núria Amigor Grau’s Vision: Lessons in leadership and inclusion at Biosfer Teslab

Núria’s leadership journey began in academia, where she spent four years, before dedicating 13 years to Biosfer Teslab, evolving from scientific director to Executive Director.

A key element of her leadership vision is the use of “traumas” as catalysts for significant change. An example she shares during her interview is the departure of a key team member, an event that, although initially traumatic, allowed the organization to implement new routines and protocols. This led to the introduction of collective competence, ensuring that at least two people knew how to perform every specific task, thus improving execution and minimizing the impact of future disruptions.

In terms of decision-making, Núria adopts a highly analytical approach. She believes that important decisions, like in life, should not be made “on the wave of emotion.” Instead, they require a great deal of reflection, evaluation, analysis, and a certain emotional “coolness” to rationalize them. While she reflects at length before making complex decisions or defining directions, this does not imply slowness, but rather a careful analysis of the initial steps and changes.

In a small company with fewer than 10 people, inclusion and respect are maintained through frequent and highly participatory meetings. Núria emphasizes the importance of actively soliciting every team member’s opinion, rather than demanding it, considering this fundamental to respect. She wants her team to be driven by the desire to grow parallel to the organization, a sense of belonging that links personal growth to company growth.

Núria’s leadership method, rooted in analytical scrutiny and trust in demonstrated competence, shapes an environment that, despite being small, manages to promote inclusion and organizational resilience through continuous learning and distributed responsibility. This leadership approach, which views personal and business growth as intrinsically linked, acts like a living organism that adapts to challenges by learning to structure its internal functions better.
